Matadi, Democratic Republic of Congo – The Universal Peace Federation (UPF–DRC) celebrated the 45th International Day of Peace and the 20th Anniversary of UPF’s founding with a series of impactful events held in collaboration with the Urban Youth Council of Kongo Central Province and the NGO “Femmes en Action” (FAC).

The celebration took place over two days, featuring both a formal conference and a vibrant cultural event that brought together leaders, youth, and artists to promote the theme “Peace Begins with Me.”
Peace Conference at the Matadi Bar Association Hall
On Saturday, 20 September 2025, UPF–DRC held a conference at the Bar Association Hall in Matadi, where more than 80 participants gathered to reflect on the meaning of peace in today’s world.
During the event, ten Ambassadors for Peace, including the Mayor of Matadi, were recognized for their outstanding contributions to community harmony and public service. The conference emphasized individual responsibility in peacebuilding and the importance of embodying the principle that true peace starts within oneself.
Cultural Celebration at “Félix Tshisekedi” Roundabout
The following day, Sunday, 21 September 2025, celebrations continued at the “Félix Tshisekedi” roundabout, where artisans showcased creative works inspired by the theme of peace and harmony with nature. The event demonstrated how the arts can reflect and nurture a culture of peace.
With the support of the local television station Horeb TV, residents shared personal reflections on peace, creating a moment of collective inspiration and community spirit. The activity reinforced the message that peace is not only a global goal but a personal commitment that begins in every heart.
