Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – On Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Burkina Faso, in partnership with the NGO Fatawa Islamique El Hairia du Burkina, organized the second edition of the World Environment Day Commemoration at the premises of the NGO’s center in Ouagadougou. The event brought together more than 750 participants, uniting leaders and citizens around the causes of peace, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

The ceremony took place under the high presidency of His Majesty Naaba Kiiba of Yatenga, whose presence gave the gathering a deep cultural and traditional significance. Distinguished participants included traditional chiefs, Islamic religious leaders, members of civil society, representatives of the host NGO, as well as partners and members of UPF-Burkina Faso.

The commemoration carried a dual purpose: to raise awareness on the urgent need to protect the environment and to highlight the link between peace and sustainable development. A symbolic tree planting ceremony was held, demonstrating the participants’ shared commitment to safeguarding nature and ensuring a greener future for Burkina Faso.

A solemn highlight of the event was the induction of 57 new Ambassadors for Peace, drawn from diverse political, social, religious, and professional backgrounds. With profound sincerity, they pledged to embody UPF’s universal principles and become active pillars of peace within their communities and nation.

The gathering created a strong spirit of unity, showing that interfaith and intercultural collaboration can mobilize people across all sectors of society. Participants underscored the importance of extending such initiatives nationwide, integrating religious and traditional leaders into reforestation and sustainable development programs, and promoting the model of partnership between local NGOs and peace organizations such as UPF.

The second edition of World Environment Day in Burkina Faso was thus marked by enthusiasm, solidarity, and a renewed determination to build a greener, more peaceful, and more harmonious nation. UPF-Burkina Faso reaffirmed its commitment to accompany the State in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through education for peace, environmental preservation, and active community engagement.
