THIRD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD BY UPF-SEYCHELLES

Victoria, Seychelles-The Universal Peace Federation - Seychelles recently convened its third Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the CEPS Conference Room, Orion Mall, Victoria, Mahé Seychelles on April 1, 2023. The UPF-Seychelles Executive Committee sponsored the event, which aimed to increase membership and promote awareness of the goal of "Building a national goal of peace."

UPF-Seychelles is an autonomous, volunteer-driven, non-profit organization with a mission to sensitize the public and foster a national objective of peace, enabling every Seychellois to enjoy freedom, harmony, cooperation, and prosperity. The association is registered with the Registrar of Associations, in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Seychelles.

During the AGM 2023, members and affiliates re-elected the seven (7) Executive Committee members who were appointed for a two-year term at the AGM 2021, including Chairperson Mr. Roger Alphonse, Vice-Chairperson Ms. Anna Faerber, Secretary Mrs. Suganda Betioux, Treasurer Mr. Jacob Terence Madeleine, Secretary-General Mrs. Rosemary Elizabeth, and two Ordinary members: Mr. Wilven Alcindor and Miss Brisiola Niole (the youth representative), and honorary member, Ms. Diana Benoit.

The AGM 2023 commenced at 10 am with opening remarks from Chairperson Mr. Roger Alphonse, who welcomed attendees and guests, followed by a prayer by Vice-Chairperson Ms. Anna Faerber. Mr. Alphonse emphasized the importance of all members understanding UPF-Seychelles' "Vision, Mission and Objective," and elaborated on the organization's objectives and activities from 2018 to 2022. 

During the Annual General Meeting (AGM), Mr. Jacob Terence Madeleine, the treasurer of the Association, provided a financial report for the year 2022, highlighting the limited financial activities carried out by the Association. He then emphasized the need to increase the number of members, particularly the youth, and to collaborate with all stakeholders, including the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC).

Ms. Anna Faerber, the vice-chair, reiterated the call for additional members and presented the proposed calendar of activities for UPF-Seychelles in 2023. The activities planned for the year include character education workshops, Association meetings, recruitment workshops, visits to low-income families, and the annual Peace Day festival on September 21, 2023.

During the Q&A session, members and affiliates stressed the importance of improving communication channels within the Association and among its members. The secretary-general also emphasized the need for UPF-Seychelles to increase its visibility, particularly through the use of media, to promote itself to the general public.

The Reports, Calendar of Activities, and Appointment of Auditor were approved by all attendees, and the AGM concluded with closing remarks from the secretary-general, Mrs. Rosemary Elizabeth. She urged members to actively seek out and register new members to promote peace, love, unity, happiness, and good values in the country. She reiterated the Association's commitment to working with representatives of government, businesses, civil societies, and the community to enhance peace in Seychelles.

In conclusion, the AGM was adjourned, and attendees were treated to refreshments. The Executive Committee and members of UPF-Seychelles expressed their gratitude to CEPS Management for their assistance during the meeting and to Mrs. Suganda Betioux for her active participation and assistance with the arrangements and cleanup of the conference room. As they continue to "live for the sake of others," they look forward to achieving their goals and promoting peace in Seychelles.
